I recently heard the term ‘mid-twenties crisis’. I also recently became 25 years old.

You know that feeling you have when you are young, that you are always going to be this way and that you have plenty of time to do all these things you’ve been dreaming about since, well, forever?

Not tomorrow of course. Or the day after that. No, you’re too busy with your part-time job. You actually feel kind of full with that. I mean you can buy whatever you need –well almost whatever you need– you even go to the gym when you have the opportunity. You don’t have time to make plans about dreamy lives or jobs. Basically, you barely succeed to put those in line.

Success. You never thought that this word will apply to those things.

Of course, you think that it’s just something you do for now and life has big plans for you. Well, that’s the problem. If you are happy with your daily routine and all you wish for are a few upgrades, then that’s fine.

In fact, that’s more than fine; you are really lucky!

You’re one of the few that are happy with the life they live. But if you do all these things waiting for life to make big things happen, then you will most likely get a big disappointment in the future. Don’t get me wrong, when I say ‘big things’ I’m not referring to fancy cars, a lot of money or a sexy six-pack! No… those things are fine but there’s no bigger truth than that the most beautiful things in life are the simple ones.

And it turns out that they are the most difficult to achieve too. I used to think that, someday, something really great would happen– something extraordinary. Like if I fell into a rabbit hole, like Alice in Wonderland, then magic things would probably start happen.

Well I did fall in a rabbit hole actually. Magic things started happening when I started preparing myself for them. Everything started to make sense when I started loving myself, making room in my life for the right people to come, hearing my heart and its needs; When I followed the creativity inside me, saw the good and removed the bad.

It’s not an easy thing to do, and it’s not going to happen from one day to another. It’s a never-ending battle; that’s true. It takes a lot of time, courage, and probably pain, to get there. But when you do get there you will understand it was all worth it.

There’s no bigger satisfaction in life than to look around you and be happy; even proud of what you are building. And most importantly to look inside yourself and feel the same way. Everything begins and ends with you.

Give yourself the chance to be happy. Be true to yourself so that you can be true to others as well. Don’t be afraid to take the difficult path. It’s your life; do it your way! Use your imagination. And there’s no better time than now! Now that you are not completely inexperienced and reckless but you are still full of energy and passion.

It’s your choice. You will never feel completely ready. Life is not a movie. It’s even better! You just have to jump into it. Do that thing you always talked about –or at least try to do it. If you don’t succeed you will at least learn.

The most dangerous risk of all is the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. Are you willing to take it?
