Yes, I said it fellas. Winter is friggin’ awesome! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t enjoy the sea-sun-ice-cream trio – because I do, a lot. But, when it comes to this trio vs the snuggle-rain-hot-chocolate one, then I think we all just need to take a moment and merge into one of the two following scenarios; and then we will see which is the clear choice.

Scenario A – You have a significant other

Now, close your eyes and try to imagine what I’m about to describe.

It’s a cold, winter-y afternoon and you two are in the house together. Little raindrops are tap-dancing on the roof and the wind is blowing against your windows. You can hear it, but – thankfully, what a bliss! – you can’t feel it.

Because you’re both sitting next to fireplace and feel warm and safe. Both snuggling in plush covers and enjoying a movie on the TV set – you either laugh watching a romantic comedy, cry watching a drama or are being knee-deep in terror watching a thriller. It doesn’t matter which of the three – you still hold each other tenderly in every “difficult” scene.

Or maybe you’re not watching a movie. Maybe you’re playing a board game. You’re both in your nice, warm sweats, drinking a bit of vodka and trying to find who the hell created the first shoe lace (which means you’re playing Trivial Pursuit and I’d suggest you closed it before you end up breaking up – but that’s another story).

And, of course, if you’re not doing any of the aforementioned then… you’re probably warming each other with something more than plush covers (wink, wink – SEX that is).

Scenario B – You only have yourself

Again, roll the cameras, it’s cold outside. A rainy day and you, after having finished your duties for the day, are in for some relaxation.

You put on some music (softly, you don’t want to interrupt the wind and rain song) and you light up the fireplace. You slip in your cutest and softest pjs and pour yourself some hot red wine, with apple slices and cinnamon.Afterwards your sit on your favorite armchair, surrounded by cushions and you turn the amazing book you’re reading on page 346, to pick up where you left off.

Alternatively, you make yourself a hot cup of cocoa and choose a movie from the list you’ve been making for years now – you know, movies you really want to see, but you’re kind of embarrassed to suggest when you’re with others? Yup, winter’s the time to watch these!

Or, in a different dimension where people like me actually exist, you finally have enough time and solitude to finish that 3000-piece puzzle that you’re making – and when it rains, each piece you put on the right place, feels like a piece that was put correctly on your own puzzle of life.

Now, I’m done. And who can tell me that any of the two scenarios mentioned above didn’t warm their heart and made them want to be there and live that exact fantasy? And it’s all winter, you know? The soft couch cushions, the hot beverage that warms your soul and the sound of rain falling… the stuff of fairy tales.

Winter makes us all snuggly, warm, hot chocolate drinkers, candle lighters, fireplace lovers. So, Eddard Stark, if you’re listening from the beyond, let the Winter come; I’ll put on my pjs, wear my stuffed animal slippers and prepare Him a cocoa that will melt even His frozen heart!
