Taking a stroll down memory lane, I always make a stop at those moments when my friends –or I-  were drunk; some of the best and most comical ones.

It’s at those times that we do exactly the opposite of what our common sense indicates; instead of laying off and just having a couple drinks we dive in and drink until we are totally wasted! Even when we become tipsy, it’s like there is a big NO banner in our heads telling us we shall go on and drink up till we are seeing double.

Reasons may vary, leading towards this but there is one common thing in them all; you don’t stop drinking up until the point you cannot comprehend anything and just act. Some may do so to forget, as they say alcohol is a fine remedy for this. Forget their problems for a bit and numb the mind so it doesn’t torment you with dreadful thoughts.

Others just because they want to let go, loosen up and relax; to become more talkative and to be the heart of the party. And do they make a show to remember!

It’s a way to act up and just let go, lose yourself for once just so that you have the experience; and what a great experience! Especially when you become sober again- having a hangover side effect nevertheless- and laugh about the crap you pulled, having your friends tease you for a lifetime about the funny things you did.

It’s one of those delightful moments which, when you reminisce, bring a big fat smile on your face. People you never thought could be fun or enjoyable to hang out with suddenly become those everyone wants to be around. Your closest friends surprise you with the hilarious things they do, and you laugh till your stomach hurts!

Some of the greatest memories are created after getting a bit too much alcohol into your system; through having a part in helping your drunk friends and laughing with them later; it binds you together even more. Ones of the most treasured and priceless recollections to hold onto.

Think of having a reunion and how it funny it would be to start discussing the old times, when you used to party like crazy and what crazy crap you did while drunk; it lightens the atmosphere and brings everyone closer again however many years may have passed.

But I think maybe the most common reason is to get the courage to say or do things we wouldn’t otherwise. When thinking over something constantly, you want it so badly it hurts, but you are afraid to act. Many find a solution in having a drink – or several – to help you think it over and decide on it. Might it be a dilemma of the heart, something to do with your business or family; anything at all. Having your mind numbed a bit, gives you more freedom to do what you’d like, takes off the stress of thinking over the consequences too much.

Say you see a girl or guy you like, you want to go talk to her or him and show that you’re interested, but your insecurities don’t let you and the possibility of being rejected is too grave for you to bare. After a few drinks everything seems easier, you become more chatty and take advantage of it making your move, and puff – you did it! A new acquaintance that may turn into something beautiful!

The thing is, everything has two sides; a good and bad one. Getting drunk does, as well. The key is to find the silver lining, putting a limit to how much you consume and having good friends to have your back.

Whatever your reasons for having a couple of extra drinks, see that you do it responsibly, having in mind your safety and the safety of those around you. As I mentioned earlier, dimming your senses can be liberating, but, in many cases, equally dangerous for you and those around you if you are not careful.

If you have all of this, then brace yourself for a great journey with lots of amusing memories to be made!
