you-must-be-the-change-you-wish-to-see-in-the-world-1024x576

We live in 2020. Our world is full of capitalistic ways and ideas. The definition of capitalism according to Wikipedia is: an economic system that works in favor of private ownership of production, creation of goods and services for profit.

And that’s what basically happens in reality too. We live in a world where a “few” groups of people rule and work on gaining more power and money, so the world moves according to their needs and will.

Money; a keyword for everything that happens in the world today, and practically for everything that was happening in the world as long as people have evolved to Homo sapiens. Like one of the songs in the musical “Cabaret” says “Money makes the world go round”.

After all, money, land, and power are the main reasons for every single war that has ever happened in the history of humanity. And for every war, armies are needed. Armies consist of the young blood of every country. Young people who go to war only to destroy cities, lives -even their own- kill children, women, men and animals, and for what? Profit.

That’s the world of today, but in an ideal world, there would be equality. Α society model of equality would definitely not be so convenient for all the above. A model of equality that will make the world a place where all people would have a roof over their heads, where all people would be able to feed themselves and their families, where all the people would have a job so they could earn a living and are able to cover their basic needs. And maybe even something more, for things like entertainment and art.

A world where people would have found a way to produce, create, and have everything they need. A world where people wouldn’t have the constant need to have more money and power. A world where people would have fewer needs would definitely be a better place. A world like that would be more united. There would be fewer disputes and probably less violence. Relations between people would be better and freedom of any form would be much more usual.

Everything would be equally divided. People of each country would be able to have their traditions and language and they would respect other countries’ customs. Respect is such an important word. Having respect for the person next to you, and in general for human existence, as well as all the other forms of life that complete the world that surrounds you is very important.

There will always be differences between people; different skin colors, languages, religions, traditions, opinions, beliefs, sexual preferences, points of view, but if we could learn to respect each other, things would be better. Respect, combined with the lack of wars, disputes issued by religions, and a more equal society model would make the world a much better place!

But even in the world that we live in today, that isn’t ideal at all, there are dreamers. We, who can imagine and believe in a better version of the world, as it is. We, who have faith that, one day, some things might change. There are even some even braver ones who try to make a change and leave their mark in today’s society. Some of us, dream about a society of equality and -why not?- even peace.

I can’t believe that there is even one person in the world that doesn’t get goose pimples while listening to these lyrics by John Lennon:

“Imagine there are no countries, It isn’t hard to do, Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too. Imagine all the people, Living life in peace”.

He imagined it and we can too!
