We all have something to do, every minute of every day. For most our days are planned out down to the second. Running around, trying to beat time. In reality we are doing something every minute of every day. Even if that is sitting down just for a second, we are still doing something. Our minds never stop. And whether it’s the best or worst day of our lives we still have things we need to do. Working, shopping, reading, texting, eating, sleeping; all things we do every single day.

What is the point though? What is the point of being so busy every day that you actually forget to live?

This week at Pillowfights we examined the issue of time management. Our poll asked our readers if they prefer to do things right away or if they tend to leave them for a later time if they have the opportunity to. So, here we go…

It’s that ‘can do’ attitude that everyone tries to maintain every day. Whether there’s not enough time in the day for you to do what you have to do, or you procrastinate because you don’t really want to do something, the truth is that many will say ‘what can be done today can also be done tomorrow’. Or, at least that’s the mentality of 35% of our readers.

But why leave something for tomorrow if it can be done today? What if tomorrow is too late? Life can be taken away in a second; just like that. And you never know when that might happen. It’s true, you may not see tomorrows light of day.

But let’s not be too dramatic. I mean, you most probably won’t die tonight. But let’s say that you do leave something and say ‘yeah, I can deal with that tomorrow’ and something happens? What happens if you can’t deal with it because something else has come up, something more important? Or what if you forget? What if it’s too late? I guess that’s fine if you didn’t really want to do it but what if you did? You’d be a bit disappointed, wouldn’t you?

I suppose you could argue that if you were thinking of leaving it until tomorrow than it probably wasn’t that important anyway so it doesn’t matter when things get done. But in the end you are just left with a pile of jobs to do that you keep postponing until the next day. And they keep piling up.

65% of our beloved audience’s opinion stands with the opposite; that, on the other hand, being able to organize yourself, your time and your priorities so that you don’t ever have to leave anything ‘till the next day is something not everyone can accomplish. And even if you try to do everything you have to do today, there’s always the possibility of something unexpected coming up and you run out of time.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that sometimes, no matter how hard you try, it’s impossible to do everything in one day. Even if you want to. And sometimes, you simply don’t want to do some things and that’s fine too. But you can only ignore something for so long before that last minute comes along with the panic. In my book an organized, proactive me equals a happy, stress free me.
