I’m telling you, it was the worst date I have ever been on. It was just one thing after another.

I was nearly ready. After spending almost all day putting different outfits together in my mind, I had narrowed it down to three. I had been in the shower for way too long and spent more than an hour doing my hair and make-up.

I was feeling really anxious and, to be honest, a bit scared but excited at the same time. So twenty minutes before he was meant to pick me up, it was time to put on that perfect outfit that was flattering and sexy –yet not too revealing– and add the finishing touches; like perfume and lipstick.

And there I was waiting, hovering behind the door waiting for the door-bell to ring. Instead my phone rang.

Beep-beep-beep. It was him; ‘Are we still on for tonight?’ So I replied, ‘Yeah, I’ll be ready in a bit’, trying not to seem too eager. A few minutes later he text back, ‘Ok, I’m running a bit late… I should be there in about half an hour.’

So I took my shoes of and made myself comfortable on the sofa and turned the TV on. I thought to myself, did he forget? Or does he not want to take me out? I distracted myself with the TV, flicking through the channels until I found something to watch. And half an hour went by.

Forty-five minutes later, still no sign of him. I was convinced he wasn’t coming. And just as I got up to go and take my make-up off, tie my hair up into a messy bun and put my pjs on my phones chimes again.

‘I’m on my way’, he wrote. I sent back ‘ok’ and went upstairs to find my comfy converse as he didn’t deserve the effort of heels. A guy should not make a girl wait for so long on their first date.

Anyway, he finally showed up an hour late. I grabbed my jacket and opened the door. We walked to his car and he asked, ‘so what do you want to do?’ He hadn’t made any plans at all.

I’m telling you, I’m sure he forgot about it until the last minute.

We ended up just going to a pub for a drink as it was late anyway. We got a drink (where he expected me to pay for my own –I mean, come on! It’s a gentleman’s courtesy to pay for drinks on the first date, not to mention, again, that I got stood up for an hour!) and sat down at one of the tables outside and started talking.

But about half an hour later we ran out of stuff to talk about and there was an awkward silence. So, he tried to break it with a joke. It was actually quite offensive, though, and it made me a bit angry. At that point it started to rain as well so we ran inside and found an empty table.

I said I had to go to the bathroom, I really did need to go to the bathroom but I also wanted to get away for a minute. I seriously thought about texting you to ring me with an emergency so I could get out of there. But I knew you were at work, so I didn’t want to bother you.

When I got back he was on the phone with someone and he actually carried on chatting to them for ten minutes while I was just sat there. So I downed the rest of my drink and when he finally hung up the phone I told him that I have to get up early in the morning for work and that was time to go home.

So we left. That awkward silence took over the whole ride home. I’m not sure what he thought but I couldn’t wait to get out of there. As he pulled up outside my house, I reached for my bag with one hand and the door handle with the other and he turned towards me.

I turned to him and said ‘it was nice to meet you, goodnight’. But he leaned in to kiss me. I didn’t want to kiss me, I hadn’t felt anything all night and I wasn’t into him so I turned my head so he caught my cheek. He said that he would text me but I’m really hoping he doesn’t.

It was the worst date I’ve had and I definitely don’t want to go on anymore of those. At the moment I don’t feel like dating anyone to be honest. Meeting someone new, getting to know them, figuring out what they are to me; it all seems like so much work that I don’t want to do. I feel a bit drained and disappointed after last night, not in the mood for any more evenings like that.
